Kotaro Umeda is a former professional athlete, globally published author, and keynote speaker who helps individuals and organizations pursue excellence without losing their sense of identity. A first-generation Japanese immigrant and University of Louisville alumnus, Kotaro made history as the first Asian athlete to represent Joinville Esporte Clube in Brazil, competing professionally across Brazil, Portugal, the United States, and Hong Kong. Drawing from nearly a decade of experience across sport, leadership, and mental resilience work, he delivers practical, values-driven insights for high-performing environments.
Kotaro has spoken to audiences across corporate organizations, schools, universities, nonprofits, and faith-based communities on topics including self-leadership, discipline, resilience, and sustainable performance. He is the author of five books — available in English, Japanese, and Portuguese — and is a mental health advocate through NAMI NYC. Known for his calm presence and honest storytelling, his talks move beyond motivation, equipping audiences with tools they can apply immediately.
